"Inspiring Trust" - 32nd ACISE International Conference
The three-year research project on the educational and anthropological foundations of Educating in Trust - Educating fot Trust which has been led by ACISE gives a unique possibility of research, discussion and scholarly exchange.
For the Institute of Pedagogy of John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin it is with pleasure and a sense of great obligation that we undertake the preparation of the next stage of the outlined project, which is the International Scientific Symposium entitled “Inspiring Trust”. The value of trust which we want to read from an educational perspective, i.e. from the perspective of those values that serve the proper development of the human being, will be the central issue of research, speeches and discussions during the meeting in Lublin on 4-6.04.2024.
The words of Pope Francis from his recent encyclical Fratelli tutti (2020) became a special inspiration to make precisely trust – and hope the subject of intense reflection. In it, the Holy Father wrote: " I invite everyone to renewed hope, for hope speaks to us of something deeply rooted in every human heart, independently of our circumstances and historical conditioning. Hope speaks to us of a thirst, an aspiration, a longing for a life of fulfillment, a desire to achieve great things, things that fill our heart and lift our spirit to lofty realities like truth, goodness and beauty, justice and love" (p. 55). It should be noted that the Pope very clearly places hope and trust in the context of educational anthropology. He sees it as a force, independent of socio-cultural conditions, that changes human life for the better. In other words, the hope and trust inscribed in the heart of man is not so much unconditioned by the historical circumstances of human life, but is realizable in all conditions of human life.
Particularly today, in a modern world shattered by the tragic consequences of wars, conflicts, injustices and, particularly, the growing fear of global catastrophe, it is worth turning in ongoing educational research to the search not only for the causes of the current crisis, but also - and perhaps above all - in the direction of seeking positive solutions. A path of thought that seems to conceal such possibilities is to conduct research on hope and trust in an educational context.
