Presently we have about 2000 students enrolled from all over Uganda
and from other countries like Austria, Burundi, Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana,
Italy, Ivory Coast, Kenya, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Rwanda, Slovenia, South
Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, the United States of America and Zambia.
Of these about 500 are full time resident on the Campus, and of the
remainder are either following distance-learning courses or part-time
programmes. We have also hosted students from Europe and USA involved
in research and field work. This international atmosophere gives members
of our community a rich experience of values and cultural exchange.
Facilities and Services
The Assistant
Registrar for Students' Affairs supports the students' Union
activities and the welfare of students. This is mainly in
areas such as: applications, study, accomodation, social welfare,
psychological problems, and student related queries.
Accomodation
The University has seven halls of residence on the main campus and
five additional privately owned halls off the main campus for the
full time students who reside on campus. Students are accomomdated
within double rooms that are spacious with ample light, providing
the students with an environment conducive to study. Day students
may reside off campus. UMU also has a guest house for the visiting
lecturers and other guests of the University.
Health Services
The University has its own infirmary. The infirmary is at the service
of students and staff of the University and is open daily. Referrals
to hospitals, depending on the cases, are made to Nkozi, Masaka or
Kampala.
Chaplaincy
The Catholic Chaplaincy organises talks, seminars, meetings for worship
and fellowship on a regular basis. This aims at encouraging thinking
on matter of a social, theological and ethical nature. The chaplaincy
can organise and/or provide counselling and advisory services for
those who request it. A daily Eucharistic Service is celebrated at
6:45 p.m. everyday, except Wednesdays and Saturdays when it is celebrated
at 7:00 a.m. and on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. The Church of Uganda community
has a visiting Chaplain. Every Sunday, the Chaplain conducts a Sunday
Service for the Church of Uganda members of the University.
