Research

The academic projects at UMU, namely the Supply of Academic Publications (SAP) and African Virtual Univesity (AVU) are services that aid Staff and students in their teaching, learning and research. With these projects the University is able to expose the staff and students to tools of modern technology, that is the Internet and Satellite, in their respective fields of study.

SAP project at UMU
Following a series of meetings and conferences by members of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU), and the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), it was realised that the cost of acquiring up-to-date academic material and information such as: articles, journals and publications amongst Universities in the Developing World were ever increasing though many of these Universities experience difficulty in accessing and acquiring the funds due to financial constraints or they do not have access at all.

The members of IFCU and IAUP also noted that it was difficult for department/individuals in these Universities to publish their academic research work. Therefore, as a possible solution to the above challenges, the members proposed that there is need to create a link between Universities in the West and Universities in the developing world via modern communication technology (Internet), to enable the exchange of academic information at an affordable cost. Hence the idea of the Supply of Academic Publications was initiated.
