Uganda Martyrs University Summer School 2008

The Uganda Martyrs University "Summer" school is a project aimed at adding value to the populace of Uganda especially the youth and senior school leavers who stay at home for close to 8 months before joining tertiary institutions. The project is an initiative of Fr. Grimes Foundation and will run from June 2008 to July 2008.

UMU Open Day - All are welcome

Each Year UMU opens her gates to the general public to give them a chance to see what happens at UMU and what UMU has to offer. This year the Open Day is on Saturday 24th March 2007 starting at 10.00a.m to 4.00 p.m.

Uganda Martyrs University nominated for Commonwealth Award

The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) congratulates Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) for winning the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Website Award in Sub-Saharan Africa in July 2006 (http://www.acu.ac.uk/prnetwork/), and for being nominated for the Times Higher Education Supplement Award in the category of the Commonwealth University of the Year. The Award is part of a global exercise, by the Times Higher Education to promote excellence of international member higher education institutions of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

Uganda Martyrs University Lays its first Fibre Optic Cable

With the implementation of the wireless network, UMU through the Department of ICT is laying the first Fibre Optic cable.

UMU Campus Goes Wireless

On 20th of April the first wireless connection was inaugurated at the UMU campus. Staff and students will now be able to surf the internet and check their mail in the university quadrangle without any physical connections.

Open Source Software Weekend in Kampala

Uganda Martyrs University, in collaboration with the East African Center of Open Source Software (EACOSS, www.eacoss.org) and Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (www.uict.ac.ug) is organizing, on 25-27 February, an Open Source Weekend.

BREAKING NEWS: UMU TO BE GRANTED A CHARTER

In its meeting of 3rd December 3rd 2004, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) resolved to grant Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) its Charter.

Uganda Martyrs University goes Wireless

The department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) and the department of ICT will embarked on an ambitious project to create a wireless computer network for the university and its neighbours. The department of CSIS has received the grant of €1 million from the Dutch organisation Nuffic (www.nuffic.nl) to develop local capacity in collaboration with two Dutch universities: the Free University in Amsterdam and Technical University in Delft.

400 GRADUATE DURING THE NINTH GRADUATION CEREMONY

At the ninth UMU graduation ceremony held on Friday 15th October 2004 at the Nkozi Campus, over four-hundred candidates graduated in various fields, including the first PhD students - Dr Nduhukhire-Owa-Mataze and Dr Munyonyo Remigius. We congratulate them upon their achievements! The pioneer students of the programme in Micro-finance and Economic Development also graduated obtaining an associate Bachelor of Arts degree.

Uganda Martyrs University receives UCC Award

On the occasion of celebrating its 5th Anniversary, on 15 July 2004, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) gave awards to different instiututions and individuals for their contribution towards the development of the communications sector in Uganda.

UMUCS releases FOSS CD

The Uganda Martyrs University Computer Society has released the first version of the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) CDROM to its members. Under the objective of promoting and advocating for the use of open source software, all members were given a free copy of the CDROM.

Uganda Martyrs University Computer Society

On the 24th April 2004, students and staff of Uganda Martyrs University launched the Uganda Martyrs University Computer Society. The computer society is to be a forum for people who are interested in computer science and information technology.

UMU 4th ANNUAL OPEN DAY

Uganda Martyrs Unviersity shall hold its 4th Annual Open Day on the 27th March 2004 from 10:00am - 4:00pm. All prospective students, parents, guardians, alumni, friends and well-wishers are invited.
