The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department.
Inaugurated in September 2000, the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department is the local provider of ICT services at UMU. Our Vision is to make UMU a competitive modern university, with an effective international presence, through the application of a state-of-the-art ICT system.
Hence, our mission is: to improve and maintain the local area network (LAN) to liaise with external suppliers and providers of ICT goods and services to provide computing, information, and telecommunications services and support at UMU.
Through a 768 Kbps link, as well as our own domain and website, all students and staff have access to Internet and email services. The University has wide access to a wireless connection reaching all halls of residence out and round the campus. The ICT Department collaborates with the academic faculties and Departments of the university to ensure that the students are adequately computer literate. It also facilitates computer trouble-shooting and routine maintainance. The ICT department is determined to migrate UMU from closed source to open source software both for the operating systems and the application programmes.
