Introduction Welcome to Uganda Martyrs University and the distance-learning Diploma/Bachelors degree programmes in Microfinance and Community Economic Development. These courses are run by the Department of Micro Finance under the Faculty of Business Administration and Management in collaboration with other faculties of the university. The main funders for the programme are Sida in conjunction with GTZ and MAIN. The staff of the University, who have a wide range of international academic qualifications, are committed to working with you throughout your time with us. We encourage a holistic approach to learning and discourage verbatim repetition of notes in assignments and assessments. We believe that this is one‑of‑a‑kind training programme providing a practical understanding of sustainable Microfinance, and supplying the necessary tools to create and operate successful sustainable Microfinance lending programmes in Africa. This comprehensive course using both distance learning and residential requirements satisfies the training and development needs for people already working in Microfinance, as well as those seeking to explore this growing field. Students learn the basics of how Microfinance works and see how Microfinance institutions can be of benefit to clients, particularly rural communities and small enterprise entrepreneurs. You will be assisted and encouraged to think for yourself in a critical fashion about a wide range of issues. We are here to help you learn and to learn with you. We hope that your time with us will be both enjoyable and fruitful. Rev.Fr. Ssemwogerere A. Edward Programme Director Department of Microfinance Who Should Attend?
