MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ICT MANAGEMENT, POLICY AND ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN |

Uganda Martyrs University(UMU) is pleased to announce a Master of Science degree study programme in ICT Management, Policy and Architectural Design due to start in April 2010 as a weekend programme lectures beginning at 6:00pm up to 9:00 pm on Friday and 9:00 am to 2: 00 pm on Saturday. The programme runs for two calendar years and will be taught in Kampala at the Uganda Catholic Social Training Centre (UCSTC), Rubaga.
Applications are now invited from interested people. The deadline for receiving applications is Friday 26th February 2010. Applicants will sit a Graduate Admission Test on Saturday 13th March 2010 at 9:30 a.m at UMU-Nkozi main campus. Applicants should possess an honours bachelors degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
About the Programme The Curriculum for the MSc. ICT Management, Policy and Architectural Design was developed by the Faculty of Science, Uganda Martyrs University in collaboration with the University of Pretoria South Africa and Vrije University, Amsterdam.
General objective of the programme The Programme aims at producing professionals who will be able to translate the business strategies into an appropriate and sustainable ICT architecture.
Expected programme Learning Outcomes. At the end of the programme students will be able to: 1.Analyse IT/ICT investment decisions 2.Analyse and audit existing networks 3.Identify the necessary input and draft ICT policies for Organisation. 4.Identify different levels of responsibility in ICT 5.Select ICT Suppliers and steer the implementation. 6.Transfer the business case into the data architecture and the Network Architecture 7.Understand Organisations and Organisational cultures. 8.Develop security techniques, guidelines and mechanisms for organisational IT systems. 9.Direct Organisational use of ICTs. 10.Make value judgments, draw a toolbox of methods, philosophies and techniques that are relevant to the field of information systems to decide on whether to build and / or acquire an information system 11.Develop management support documentation and standards 12.Develop security evaluation and certification of IT systems, components and products, assess and treat security risks. 13.Describe project planning, execution, monitoring and controlling 14.Discuss the enabling role of ICT in corporate strategic management 15.Discuss the importance of and different strategies for managing information systems resources 16.Select the right media and equipment in each part of the network. 17.Discuss the meaning/philosophy of quality service and support 18.Appreciate the principles of IT Governance 19.Carry out research and produce new and reliable knowledge
Career prospects Job opportunities after completing the Masters programme are seen on the level of Middle Management and Senior Consultancies: ICT Managers, ICT Project Managers, ICT Policy Designers, ICT Architects / Auditor and ICT Front Office Managers.
Entry requirements A good undergraduate degree in Information Systems or Information Technology or Computer Science or its equivalent from a recognized university.
Duration of the programme The full-time programme runs over one full calendar year (August - September) and is fully residential at Nkozi. The Part Time programme is taught at UMU - Rubaga campus over the weekends and covers a period of two years. All courses are offered on a modular basis.
Contact hours and credit units Each module apart from the research project will have 45 hours Each module will have 3 Credit units Total credits in the programme will be 3*12 = 36 Credits.
