The School of Post Graduate Studies Taught Programmes
Currently, UMU offers the following postgraduate programmes:
PG Diploma/Master of Arts Development Studies (full time/part-time/distance learning) These are taught programmes and candidates must be in possession of a bachelor's degree from a recognised institution.
Applications and Admissions Candidates should complete the appropriate application form, available from the registrar's office or at the UMU office in Kampala, at the Uganda Catholic Social Training Centre, Rubaga All candidates are registered for undifferentiated graduate research for 1 year period. Transfer to the MPhil and/or PhD programmes necessitates a formal presentation of the research topic before the Graduate Studies by Research Committee. The scholarship demonstrated at this presentation will determine whether students are admitted to the MPhil or PhD. Some formal Courses are required in the relevant field and/or research methods.
Candidates seeking admission to study leading to the degree of MPhil should normally possess a primary degree: first class or an upper second-class honours. Candidates can also be admitted to the MPhil programme who possess a Master's degree obtained through following taught courses and the presentation of a minor thesis. Such candidates will be expected to submit their thesis within a shorter period of time. In exceptional circumstances, candidates can be admitted with relevant work experience and appropriate professional qualifications. candidates seeking admission to study leading to the award of the PhD degree, shall normally possess a Master's degree in the relevant area from a recognized university.
