Currently, UMU offers the following postgraduate programmes:

PG Diploma/Master of Arts Development and Education(distance learning)
PG Diploma/Master of Arts Development and Microfinance (distance learning)
PG Diploma/Master of Arts Development and NGO Management (distance learning)
PG Diploma/Master of Arts Development and youth studies (distance learning)
PG Diploma/Master of Business Administration and Management (full time/part-time)
PG Diploma/Master of Science Health Services Management (full time)
PG Diploma/Master of Arts Education and Development(full time)
PG Diploma/Master of Science Development Economics(full time)

These are taught programmes and candidates must be in possession of a bachelor's degree from a recognised institution.

Entry requirements

All candidates are registered for undifferentiated graduate research for 1 year period. Transfer to the MPhil and/or PhD programmes necessitates a formal presentation of the research topic before the Graduate Studies by Research Committee. The scholarship demonstrated at this presentation will determine whether students are admitted to the MPhil or PhD. Some formal Courses are required in the relevant field and/or research methods.

Candidates seeking admission to study leading to the degree of MPhil should normally possess a primary degree: first class or an upper second-class honours. Candidates can also be admitted to the MPhil programme who possess a Master's degree obtained through following taught courses and the presentation of a minor thesis. Such candidates will be expected to submit their thesis within a shorter period of time. In exceptional circumstances, candidates can be admitted with relevant work experience and appropriate professional qualifications. candidates seeking admission to study leading to the award of the PhD degree, shall normally possess a Master's degree in the relevant area from a recognized university. In exceptional circumstances, candidates can be admitted with relevant work experience and appropriate professional qualifications in addition to a primary degree

Duration of the programme

For full-time students, the research periods are as follows:
MPhil: minimum of 2 years, maximum of 21/2 years.
PhD: normally a minimum of 3 years, maximum of 5 years.

For part-time students, the research periods are as follows:
MPhil: minimum of 2 years, maximum of 3 years.
