The University Council
This is the supreme authority of the University and comprises ecclesiasitical province, the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors and Registrar of Uganda Martyrs University, one member of staff, one representative of the students, one representative of Senate, and five representatives from outside UMU. The main duties of Council are to give policy directions for the governance of the University. The Council also operates the Finance and Appointments Committees.

The Advisory Board
Comprises the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, all Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments, the Registrar, the Librarian, the Finance Officer, the Assistant Registrars, the Estates Officer, the University Warden and the Farm Manager. The main duty of the Advisory Board is to advise the officers of the University on the general management of the University.

The Academic Structure
Senate
This body governs all academic matters pertaining to the University, and is made up of the Vice-Chancellor, who is the Chairperson, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the Registrar, all heads of Faculties, Institutes, Centres, and Departments, all full Professors and two elected members of the Academic Staff.

Academic Boards
Each faculty, institute, centre, and department has its own board of studies whose task is to facilitate the smooth running of the various departments and to make recommendations to the Senate on matters pertaining to their academic or professional activities.
