Presentation

The RefugeesLAB initiative was born as a result of the Roma Conference entitled « Refugees and Migrants in a Globalized World: Responsibility and Responses of Universities ». The RefugeesLAB now concerns 25 of our member universities.

The complexity of the tragedy of migrants poses major problems in terms of integration, diplomacy and economic development. This complexity requires the commitment of universities for several reasons and on several levels.

The reasons are as follows: Only 1% of the world’s refugees can pursue tertiary education in line with the United Nations right to education and the Goals of Sustainable Development. On the other hand, how can we rebuild or build a peaceful society without knowledge and solidarity? A human being is not merely a head to cover or a body to feed; it is far more than that.

As refugees and migrants flee their homeland seeking for security, the involvement of Catholic universities is more than necessary.
