Jesuit priest, he is Doctor of Theology of the Centre Sèvres (Jesuit Faculties of Paris). He was professor of fundamental theology at the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy and Theology of Belo Horizonte (FAJE). Since 2006, he is Rector of the Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP). He was elected President of the International Federation of Catholic Universities in 2012 and re-elected in 2015. He chaired from 2013 to 2017, the Brazilian Association of Community Universities (ABRUC). He teaches theology at Unicap in the Master of Theology. He has a background in fundamental theology, working mainly on theological discernment, Christian faith and popular religiosity, Latin American contextual theology, theological method, philosophical and theological hermeneutics.
