BRIEF
HISTORY
The Catholic University of Angola (UCAN) is an Institution of the
Church, authorised by Decree of the Ministries Cabinet, n.38-A/92, 7th
August 1992 and was created by Catholic Bishops' Conference of Angola
and S.Tomé (CEAST) on 29th October 1997 to help the education of the
Angolan people.
UCAN corresponds to CEAST's desire of promoting in Angola
a Centre of Universtiy Studies, that upgrades an extensive and deep work
of research and of formation in Human Sciences, Exact Sciences, Biological
Sciences, contributing in conformity of Christian values, for development
and growth of the Angolan nation. UCAN does not mean exclusion
of anyone by religious reasons. It means only that the university will
seek to ensure an integral formation, that is not only technical and scientifc,
but also ruled by Christian Humanism.
LOCATION
OF UCAN
UCAN is presently located at the Northeast wing of the St. Clunny School
(Luanda), Nossa Senhora da Muxima Street, 29.
OBJECTIVES OF UCAN
UCAN behaves as a Church mission, and has as attributions:
- Support
to creation and cultural diffusion, in intellectual, artistic, moral
and spiritual olans, as tools of integral human achievement, insured
in christian worths.
- The
promotion of graduates to the civil society, by a scientific and professional,
up-dated and a deontological education, as justice demands.
- The creation
of a communitarian circle propitious to harmonius of students' personality
upgrowth and the comprehension and collaboration between all the members
of God's body.
- The education
and permanent formation, in particular of the students.
- The realisation
of extension's university activities and of support to community.
- The full
integration in the Angolan Community, through the study of problems
and in sense to contribute to the development and progress, to protect
the Angolan cultural identity.
- The education
at the Catholic University of Angola is directed to render aid to students
of consistent knowledge and up-dated of each subject, to offer to the
student an adequate basic scientific formation, as well capacity, through
the apprenticeship of scientific methods, to learn and create new knowledge,
to develop within students the spirit of objectivity and the capacity
of good critical good sense.
COURSES AT UCAN
UCAN offers courses in: Law, Business and Management, and Information Engineering.
FACILITIES, RESEARCH, AND UNIQUENESS
A Centre for Multi-disciplinary Issues UCAN has: twelve Lecture rooms; one
amphitheatre; A Library; Chapel; A small garden and bar; and Computer Classrooms
