BRIEF HISTORY
The Université
Catholique de l'Afrique Centrale
was founded in 1989 by the Association of the Episcopal Conference
of the Central African Region (ACERAC) which comprises of Cameroon, Congo,
Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Republic of Central Africa, and Chad. The
Université
Catholique de l'Afrique Centrale (UCAC) is under the
authority of the Holy See and opened on the 30th September 1991 with one
hundred and eleven (111) students.
LOCATION OF THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL AFRICA
UCAC is located in Yaounde town in the Central Province (District)
- Capital of Cameroon. UCAC has three Campuses, namely: NKOLBISSON
(Head office) fifteen minutes drive from the Central town; EKOUNOU-AYENE
found in the centre of the town; and MESSA situated in the centre
of town.
OBJECTIVES OF UCAC
Objectives the UCAC are three-fold:
- To contribute to the development of African Societies by forming professionals
and intellectuals, responding to the real needs: in social sciences,
management techniques, formation of nurses.
- To propose a Christian vision of man in both his philosophical and
theological dimensions.
- To contribute in defining ethical behaviour in all the sectors of
private and public life.
FACULTIES OF UCAC
UCAC has the following academic faculties/departments:
- Faculty of Theology
- Faculty of Philosophy
- Faculty of Social Sciences and Management
- The Canon Law Department
- The Advanced School of Nursing
COURSES OFFERED AT UCAC
The academic departments at UCAC offer various courses including:
Theology (160), Social Sciences and Management(901), Philosophy (116),
Canon Law (022), and Sciences of Nursing (university level)(138). UCAC
has a total of 1337 students.
FACILITIES AT UCAC
UCAC has a library with over 37,900 volumes, and over 455 magazines (computerised).
There are 10 groups, especially in social sciences, involved in research.
The University Parish caters for the spiritual needs of the community
and the Students Association caters for the students' rights and interests.
