BRIEF HSTORY ST. AUGUSTINE UNIVERSITY OF TANZANIA (SAUT), established in August 1998, offers the challenge of strong academic degree programmes in a scholarly atmosphere, preserving at the same time the sense, of community and personal concern that characterized the former Nyegezi Social Training Institute (1960-1968). While retaining the Advanced Diploma and Certficate courses, SAUT inuagurated its degree programmes with the B.A in Mass Communication, moving on to the the Bachelor of Business Administration in 1999, with further Bachelors and Masters programmes planned in the subsequent years. LOCATION OF ST AUGUSTINE UNIVERSITY OF TANZANIA The University extends over 600 acres on two campuses in the Nyegezi-Malimbe area 10.5 kms south of Mwanza municipality. Lying 3 kms off the main Mwanza-Shinyanga road, on the shores of Lake Victoria, the university is a half-hour's ride from Mwanza by car or bus. As part of Tanzania's northern highlands (1140m above sea level), the area to the east is noted for its temperate climate. Mwanza can be reached from other parts of Tanzania and East Africa by: train, air, ferry, and road. FACULTIES/INSTITUTES/DEPARTMENTS SAUT has two faculties, namely: Humanities and Mass Communication, and Business Administration. COURSES OFFERED, AND STUDENTS The university currently specialises in five professional areas of study: Journalism (both print and broadcast), Mass Communication, Accountancy, Materials Management, and Health Administration leading to Bachelors' Degrees, Advanced Diplomas, and Certficates. The University attracts students from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Malawi, and Burundi. SAUT admits students from all religious backgrounds.
