ABOUT ASUNICAM/ACUHIAM

NATURE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION
The social seat of the ASUNICAM/ACUHIAM is the university or Institute of the actual President. The objectives of the association are:
  • To promote academic collaboration among the Universities and Institutes concerned,
  • To promote a high level of study and research,
  • To encourage exchange of knowledge through publications, exchange of programmes and of lecturers,
  • To promote an incultured approach in teaching and in research,
  • To share experiences in administrative structures and financial self-support of the Universities and Institutes,
  • To sensitize the local churches and the Episcopal Conferences in view of a firmer commitment to, and a determined support of, the Universities and Institutes of Formation,
  • To see to it that University formation has an impact on the concrete life of people in Africa.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the Association is open to all Catholic Institutes of Higher Learning in Africa and Madagscar as long as they exist and effectively function and have the written support of two other member institutions of the association. Continued membership will require:
  • The up-keeping of the Catholic character of the Institute,
  • The payment of biennial membership fees,
  • The regular participation in the working sessions of the Association

STRUCTURE OF ASUNICAM/ACUHIAM
ACUHIAM covers the African continent and Madagascar. The Association promotes regional cooperation between its members so as to achieve its objectives better. A coordinator, who will be member of the Executive Committee of ACUHIAM, will be responsible for regional cooperation. ACUHIAM is a regional member of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU).
 
GOVERNANCE
The bodies of the ASUNICAM/ACUHIAM are: the General Assembly and the Executive Committee. It is the duty of the General Assembly:
  • To decide on the adoption or modification of the statutes of the ACUHIAM. at a 2/3 majority vote of those present,
  • To decide on the gain or loss of membership at a 2/3 majority vote of those present,
  • To approve the financial report of the ACUHIAM., and to vote on the budget,
  • To fix the membership fees every four years ,
  • To lay down the work programme of the Association,
  • To designate by rotation the President of the ACUHIAM.
The General Assembly takes place every second year. To hold an assembly, a quorum of 50% including the President, is required. An extraordinary meeting may be called at the request of the President or 2/3 of the members.

The executive is composed of: the President, the Regional Coordinators and the Treasurer. During its mandate the Presidency coordinates the activities of ACUHIAM. If prevented the President is replaced by the Senior Regional Coordinator. The President is appointed by rotation for a period of four years.
